Cacao pod close-up

A hand holds a mature cacao pod that's been picked from a tree in Barlovento, Venezuela. The mature cacao pod is an almond-shaped, yellowish-orange fruit that generally grows to about 5 to 12 inches long and 3 to 4 inches wide. The seeds of the cacao pod (also called "cocoa beans") are the raw materials used to make cocoa and chocolate.
